wdr interview with christian rüger and a report on medical malpractice
on monday, 10 november, the german tv channel, wdr, showed the report "courage against power", which shows two affected patients, among others, who sought and found help at the natural healing center bottrop after they experienced medical malpractice. the two naturopaths consider it their duty to stand up especially for People who are victims of medical malpractice. this is because the natural healing center has often been a point of contact for just such cases.
christian rüger, who is an alternative practitioner and the director of nabo answers questions in an interview on this important topic and explains which special needs affected patients and their relatives have. at the same time, he knows that treatment errors during routine procedures cannot be completely ruled out and that, in most cases, the doctors cannot be blamed. christian rüger, who also works as a psychological advisor at nabo, warns against generally mistrusting physicians, however. "many People tell me that they no longer want to go to the doctor. i warn against that, because that’s not what it’s about," he explains in the interview with wdr. he also points out that the percentage of treatment errors is relatively low compared to the number of operations.
a current topic
the topic of medical malpractice is very popular in the media at the moment due to the large number of People speaking out against conventional medicine. however, patients shouldn’t turn their back on conventional medicine even after several illnesses. tumors, for instance, are often only surgically treatable and certain infections absolutely require antibiotics. in such cases, the treatments at the natural healing center can complement the treatment methods of conventional medicine, without actually replacing them. christian rüger’s answer to wdr’s question whether he sees himself as a competitor of conventional medicine is therefore "no". "we see ourselves as the link between conventional medicine and naturopathy. naturopathy should be used where it is possible and feasible and conventional medicine should be used where it is necessary. because what only a doctor can do can only be done by a doctor. what only an alternative practitioner can do can only be done by an alternative practitioner."
the director of nabo does, however, see shortcomings in the health system. christian rüger criticizes that a complete checkup is not always covered by the insurance and that illnesses are not always detected in time, such as intraocular pressure at the opthalmologist. many findings are thus made by coincidence.
the position of nabo
the health center in the ruhr region is often considered an alternative for cases which are considered incurable from a conventional medical perspective. when medication and operative measures show no more progress, naturopathy offers, at best, new possibilities.
