Man, what a dramatic year 2020 has been so far, hasn’t it? The whole world is being put on hold by the coronavirus. Social contact has been limited and uncertainty is spreading. Many of you aren’t just worried about your own health, but about the well-being of those close to you as well. And on top of that, you may not be able to enjoy the outdoors as you wish to this summer, due to the contact restrictions. But something good can also come out of all that’s bad. An opportunity to grow through this challenge and emerge stronger from it. And perhaps the summer of 2020 is the chance for each individual to look inside him/herself, and put their lives, their own priorities, and thus their lifestyles to the test.
Ultimately, the topic of health and the question of our own life maxims are closer and more relevant than they have been for a long time. In recent weeks, we have received so many calls requesting various kinds of help and support, among other things, here at the Naturheilzentrum Bottrop practice (‘nabo’ for short). Of course, we would like to support each and every one of you as much as possible – beyond treatments or therapies.
This is another reason why it is all the more important for us to provide you with specific and scientifically sound health tips for your everyday life and, furthermore, to be there for you. If we get the best out of this time together, then we’ll certainly be much stronger at the end of it than we were at the beginning.

So, this year, we have been busy making videos, writing news, and publishing blogs for you. We’ll take you back and review the first half of the year. Medical fairy tale or hope for medicine? – The placebo effect
Can faith really move mountains? We asked ourselves this question for you in the spring and did a fact check. We followed the thesis that the power of suggestion is an important starting point for medicine in our posts on the placebo effect and natural painkillers. In fact, it seems almost unbelievable what our minds are capable of. If we believe very strongly in something, then it can become a reality for us. For example, if a Person is convinced that he has taken a powerful painkiller, his/her pain really can be reduced. Even if the product does not contain any active ingredients.
You can also take something from this in these difficult times. Believe in your own strengths and that you’ll tackle the challenges of today. Imagine in your mind’s eye how you’ll achieve your goals. You’ll be able to gain new strength with such a positive attitude and you may realize that you are capable of much more than you thought. In any case, we firmly believe in you!
From a few juices to your dream summer figure? How juice cleansing can help you
Stars like Heidi Klum and even your health experts, Farid Zitoun and Christian Rüger swear by this beauty and lifestyle trend: don’t eat anything for a few days, just drink fruit or vegetable juices. But is juice cleansing healthy? Can you really make a difference to your health with this fashionable diet? Or even use juice cleansing to lose weight?
In fact, there seems to be potential behind the trend. Many People report a positive effect on their well-being and even the German Society for Nutrition (DGE) at least does not rule out the possibility that juice cleansing could have positive effects. We find that if you like to drink juice and want to do something for your well-being, you can try it for yourselves. However, you should discuss this with your doctor or naturopath beforehand for safety reasons.
We’ll give you our recipe tip for your summer juice cleanse 2020, so that you can get started right away. Top model, Heidi Klum is purportedly a big fan of this lemon juice cleanse, which you can prepare several times a day:
- One cup of water (hot or cold depending on taste)
- 2 tsp maple syrup
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- A pinch of cayenne pepper
According to the findings of the DGE in one study, a lemon detox over seven days was able to show positive effects on body weight, body fat, insulin levels, and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
Saving our planet in the long run – doing something for the climate together!
The measures against the coronavirus have at least had one positive effect – they have slowed down our lives and given us the chance to look inside ourselves and gain a new perspective on the world. If we think about the long-term future, one issue is, of course, immensely important: the climate. If we do not think about taking action on climate change now, the next disaster may occur in a few years’ time – voices from the science and research communities are more than in agreement here. It is up to each of you to do something for climate protection in everyday life.
These can be really small things. Do not leave the lights on. Make sure the washing machine is always fully loaded. Or heat water in a kettle instead of on the stove. These and other measures can even have a positive impact on your health. For example, by simply cycling more often instead of using the car. If you increase your awareness of your actions in everyday life, you can help to protect the climate and at the same time do something good for your health. You have to admit: it feels great when you can be sure that you are proactively doing the next generations a favor, doesn’t it?
